What is image compression?
Image compression makes a picture file smaller so it uploads faster, fits an email, or meets a form's size limit. Lossy compression, used by JPG and WebP, removes detail your eye barely notices. Lossless compression, used by PNG, keeps every pixel but saves less space.
Our compressor uses a high-quality browser library (with WebP preference) to aim for the size you type. It keeps the highest possible quality under your limit and only reduces dimensions when necessary.
How to compress an image to an exact size
- Select your photo, or drop it on the box.
- Choose 50 KB, 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB, or type your own number.
- Press Compress, then Download.
Which format should I use?
- JPG: best for photos and works everywhere.
- PNG: best for logos, screenshots and transparency, but files are larger.
- WebP: smaller than both for websites, and supported by modern browsers.
Is it private?
Yes. Your images are processed inside your browser and never sent to a server. Close the page and nothing remains.

iPhone photos (HEIC), free

Questions
What format is the compressed file?
We prefer WebP for the best quality at small sizes. If WebP is not suitable we fall back to high-quality JPG. Transparent areas become white on JPG.
Why is my file a bit smaller than the target?
We pick the best quality that stays under your limit, so the result is never above it.
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. PNG keeps the pixels as they are, so the file usually gets bigger while the picture looks the same.
Is it free?
Yes, with no signup.
Can I take photos with my camera and make a PDF?
Yes. Use Image to PDF or Camera to PDF. Press Take photos, shoot your pages, then save one PDF or a separate PDF per photo. The photos are not saved to your gallery.
