Why Your iPhone Photo Will Not Upload (and How to Fix It)
← Blog · Updated 8 October 2026
You choose a photo on your iPhone, press upload, and the website says the file is not supported or is too large. There are two usual causes.
Cause 1: the photo is HEIC
iPhones often save photos as HEIC, and many upload forms accept only JPG or PNG. Convert the photo with HEIC to JPG, then upload the JPG.
Cause 2: the file is too big
A modern phone photo can be several MB, while forms often ask for 50 KB, 100 KB or 200 KB. Shrink it with Compress to 100 KB or choose another size. Choose JPG as the output.
Cause 3: wrong dimensions
Some forms need exact pixels, for example for passport-style photos. Use Resize to 413×531 or enter your own width and height.
A quick checklist
- Convert HEIC to JPG.
- Resize if the form asks for exact pixels.
- Compress to the KB limit.
- Upload the final JPG.
Questions
Why does the form say invalid file type?
It usually means the photo is HEIC or another format the form does not accept. Convert to JPG.
Do I need to do all three steps?
No. Check which problem your form reports and fix only that one.
