Are Online File Converters Safe? How to Protect Your Files
← Blog · Updated 8 October 2026
Many online converters send your file to their server. Others process it right in your browser. The difference matters for private files.
Uploading converters
Your file travels to a server, is processed there, and comes back. The site may keep it for some time. That is a risk for IDs, contracts and personal photos.
Browser-only tools
The file is read and processed on your own device. Nothing is sent. EasyTools works this way for its tools, so there is nothing for us to store.
How to choose safely
- Read the privacy page. Does it say files are processed in your browser?
- Be careful with sites that show an upload progress bar for sensitive documents.
- Avoid sites that require an account for a simple conversion.
- For very sensitive documents, use software on your own device.
What we still use from the internet
Pages load tool libraries and fonts from public networks. Your files are not part of that. See our privacy policy.
Questions
Can I tell if a site uploads my file?
Look for upload progress and a statement on the privacy page. Browser tools usually finish instantly without uploading.
Is browser processing slower?
It uses your device, so very large files can take a little longer on old phones.
